St. Kitts & Nevis has been independent since 1983 and is a part of British Commonwealth and a member of United Nations. The Queen of England is the Head of state and the government is based on the British parliamentary system. The official language is English.

The Federation comprises two islands: Nevis with an area of some 93 sq km and St. Kitts with 168 sq km with a population of about 50,000 people.
